Top 10 Steps to Success
1. Be prepared. - Bring your brain ready to learn and all materials and completed assignments to class each day.
2. Make the most of each opportunity to learn. - Attend class every day, be on time, stay awake and alert, and be on task.
3. Set and work toward attainable goals. - What is it that you want to accomplish? What do you need to do to accomplish those goals?
4. Pace yourself and don't procrastinate. - Learn as you go. Don't wait until the day before the assessment to try to understand it all.
5. Practice is necessary. - Time, energy, and dedication is required to excel at sports, music, video games, etc. Succeeding at math is no different, so try to get your practice in as often as possible.
6. Evaluate your understanding and work toward mastery of all ideas. - Doing practice or homework does not mean much if you don't know whether it is right or wrong or if you just skip over the ones you do not initially understand. Persevere and seek help from your teachers who want you to be successful and understand every topic we cover!
7. Multi-tasking isn't really possible. - Studies have shown it's really task-switching and disrupts your learning. (Cell phones, IPADs, homework for other classes, and other non-math distractions won't help you to learn the geometry of the day.)
8. Work effectively with others. - Surround yourself with those who can help you and realize your responsibility to help others. When you can explain things to others, it reinforces your own learning and understanding.
9. Use 8th period resource. - The purpose is for you to have a time when your teachers can help you since we care about your success. Feel free to drop in whenever you'd like!
10. Be your own advocate. - Respectfully ask questions, talk to your teacher about your concerns, and let your voice be heard.
